Old Barn Near Chromo Colorado
This old barn is located along the very southern border of Colorado. This is marginal grazing land. The pasture grass is so green because it is irrigated. The hills in the distance are covered with scrub oak and some Ponderosa pine.
This kind of land is used for “Cow – Calf” ranching. Cows and their calves are trucked in as soon as the snow melts and turned out to feed on the new grass. A few bulls are included to make sure the next years calf crop gets started. It can make for interesting times hiking in this country. In the fall the calves are loaded up and delivered to the feed lots for “finishing”.
